Tae-Joong Yang

Tae Joong Yang was born in Buye/South Korea and studied in Seoul with Philipp Kang. He moved to Germany in 2003, where he continued his vocal education with Siegfried Lorenz at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Apart from various awards in national singing competitions in his mother country, Mr Yang has won 3rd prize in the Vienna “Belvedere” competition, 1st prize in the “Ferrucio Tagliavini” competition and the “Chant de Verviers” competition in Belgium and received a special award from the New York City Opera. In 2007, he was awarded 1st prize in Plácido Domingo’s famous OPERALIA competition in Paris.

Opera and concert commitments frequently lead Mr Yang to Korea, Japan, Italy, France and Austria. In Germany, he has appeared in an opera gala with the Südwestfalen Philharmonic and in a series of concerts with the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Peter Falk at the Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Essen Philharmonic.

From the 2009/2010 season on, Mr Yang is a member of the ensemble at Vienna State Opera, where he made his acclaimed house debut as Figaro (IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA) in December 2008. Other roles he will take on with this company include Lescaut (MANON LESCAUT, MANON), Schaunard, Silvio, Harlekin, Masetto, and Belcore opposite Rolando Villazón’s Nemorino.
